Learning to See & Draw
10 weeks beginning THURSDAY, Sept 7, 2017
6 to 8:30pm
$450 for 10-week class
(includes textbook, sketchbook, pencils, kneaded eraser, pencil pouch)
Developing the art of observation will be the principal aspect of this drawing class. The way we perceive the world, shapes our worldview and our approach to life. The ability to “see” is one of the most important aspects of creating a drawing. We will be learning to gaze at a subject, discovering relationships between shapes, looking for subtle shifts in light and shadow, composition, perspective and many other tools for creating an accurate rendering of any subject.
(includes supplies: sketchbook, pencils, kneaded eraser, pencil pouch, sharpener, chamois)
How would you like to be able to “see like an artist?” Come to this 10-week drawing class and learn the basics of accurate realistic drawing. Get un-stuck from your 2nd grade drawing skills (nothing against 2nd-graders) and learn the foundational skills of seeing and understanding the physical world around you. We will be drawing objects from life.
These are the 5 basic skills that you will learn in this drawing class:
- Seeing and drawing edges (sometimes called “contour drawing”)
- Seeing and drawing spaces (called “negative spaces”)
- Seeing and drawing relationships (called “perspective and proportion”)
- Seeing and drawing lights and shadows (called “shading”)
- Seeing and drawing the whole (called the gestalt, the “thing itself,” the essential nature of the observed subject, which emerges spontaneously from the first four component skills)
